Glen Edwards Estate Collection
Growing up in Southern Idaho taught Glen to appreciate the land, people, animals, machinery and the strong work ethic of farm and ranch country. When at 5’ 5″ his dream of an athletic career evaporated, he turned to art and worked hard to learn the skills to communicate visually. Glen believed that artists are made and not born. Glen worked very quickly with painterly brushwork and color. His best work was painted very spontaneously which allowed him to maintain its freshness and spirit.
Starting out in advertising/graphic design gave Glen a love of simple graphic composition, and shape and of strong color, which he felt, gave his work impact and daring. Glen strongly felt the need for good drawing and believed that good drawing is the basis of good painting. Glen enjoyed working with form and light, rarely painting a subject without a strong light source. This allowed him to deal with a full range of values.
“He was an incredibly gifted artist and an incredibly gifted teacher who truly cared about his students and to this day has stayed in touch with many of them. They just loved him and still do” – Barbara Summers Edwards
Glen started the art department at Utah State University and retired from his long teaching career and pursued his first love, painting. Glen’s art program was recognized as one of the best in the Western United States. Glen’s program was one of highlighting the practical skills of drawing and intensive painting. He taught many painters that exhibit in galleries today.
Glen Edwards’s ability to paint “real” people shows up in his award-winning watercolor and oil paintings. His paintings have been exhibited in many one man and jury international and national exhibits. A few of his awards and honors include: US Art Magazine Bronze Medal Award of Excellence, Arts for the Parks National Traveling Exhibit, Oil Painters of America National and Regional Exhibits, Best of Show, Intermountain Society of Artist’s 3rd Annual Open Competition and Exhibit, Purchase Award, Eccles Statewide Exhibit, First Place Watercolor Award, Dixie College Invitational, Best of Show and Purchase Award, Festival of the American West.
Glen was also a featured artist in Southwest Art, July 1988. His paintings and illustrations have been featured on covers and articles of numerous books, magazines, and publications in Los Angeles, New York City, and throughout the Intermountain West and Kansas.
