Tamsen Taves

Tamsen Taves headshotTamsen Taves (b. 2001) was drawn to art at an early age. Growing up in a small agricultural town with the ocean and mountains only a short drive away, Taves felt inspired to capture the beauty of all the surrounding flora and fauna.

Taves strives to create dynamic, timeless pieces that incorporate a variety of brushwork and texture. She enjoys challenging herself by painting a wide range of subject matter including still life, landscapes, birds, and portraiture. “I love so many aspects of painting: traveling to beautiful and exciting locations for plein air painting, experimenting with paint application, and the constant research and learning that comes with the unique career of being an artist.” says Taves. She works in both oil and pastel, and chooses her medium based upon what suits the reference best and the aspects in the scene she wishes to emphasize.

In 2022, Taves was featured in Southwest Art Magazine’s annual article “21 Under 31, Young Artists to Collect Now,” which highlights 21 emerging artists under the age of 31. She is a recent graduate from California State University, Fresno with a B.S. in business administration with an emphasis in marketing and minor in fine art. Taves is now represented by multiple galleries, paints commissions, and teaches painting classes.

“Painting is a way for me to pause for a moment and appreciate my surroundings. Inspiration often comes from what’s around me whether it’s blooms from my garden or a visit to a coastal bluff. I hope the joy I experience when painting comes across in my artwork.” -Tamsen Taves
