Dave English

Dave English’s passion for creation began at just eight years old, sketching on the backs of envelopes his Nana saved for grocery lists. Raised among the mountainous landscapes of the American West, his artistic vision is profoundly shaped by a lifetime spent outdoors.

Dave’s deep love for our rich western heritage, it’s landscapes and wildlife, feeds his yearning to share the strong imagery of his incomparable outdoor experiences as an avid outdoorsman and guide in Montana, Idaho, Colorado, and New Mexico. This deep, firsthand immersion in nature allows him to portray the sublime, the powerful, the sensitive, and the beautiful. Dave humbly feels that it is his responsibility to share this gift with humanity.

For English, painting is a deeply passionate, spiritual endeavor centered on the transformative power of light. He views light as the ultimate truth that defines form, creates atmosphere, and connects the viewer to a higher plane. Rather than merely replicating familiar Western scenery, he seeks to capture its enduring dignity and emotional “spirit,” channeling his experiences to forge an authentic bond with the audience. An active member of the arts community, English also shares his technical expertise through educational workshops and as a juried exhibition judge.

Dave readily recognizes his Creator’s hand in all of his life’s successes and refuses to be viewed as the sole originator of his work, but rather as a humble collaborator with our Creator.
